The perfect gift for a Greek or Roman mythology lover, this pendant details a scene of the Greek Goddess Artemis, or Roman Goddess Diana, in woodland with her famous bow as Goddess of the Hunt and Wilderness.
Twin of the Greek God Apollo, she was said to be born first and then helped her mother with the birth of her brother and is therefore associated with childbirth and as the protector of young girls. Artemis is also known to be a virgin, ignoring all attention and advances from men, she led many nymphs as huntresses and is considered by some to be gay, queer, bisexual or asexual so has been used as a symbol by many because of this.
This piece was created using an impression taken from a vintage bachelor button and features amazing detail. Bachelor buttons were used as emergency repair buttons which could be attached without sewing, instead they had a stud which was pushed through and were sold in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This is a gorgeous statement pendant which is also a small piece of history.
